Friday Night Is Music Night
"In a special Friday Night Is Music Night, live from the Regent Theatre in Ipswich, Sarah Brightman presents a programme celebrating two of the greatest names in contemporary musical theatre, who remarkably share the same birthday on 22 March - Andrew Lloyd-Weber & Stephen Sondheim.
The BBC Concert Orchestra, under conductor Richard Balcombe, plus musical theatre stars Maria Friedman, Michael McCarthy, Annalene Beechey and Matt Rawle, supported by Capital Voices, perform extracts from Phantom of the Opera, A Little Night Music, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, Evita, Sweeney Todd, Sunset Boulevard, Follies and many more."
DRACULA
Starring Michael McCarthy
A new musical of Bram Stoker's classic gothic novel, 'Dracula', has been created by two British writers, Gareth Evans (Book & Lyrics) and Christopher J. Orton (composer) and is orchestrated by the noted UK composer, producer and arranger, Ian Lynn.
The album includes 16 fully orchestrated tracks from the score and is a rare treat for musical theatre fans.
"When you've got one hell of a vocalist like Les Miserables' stalwart Michael McCarthy hitting all the right notes in the title role, something really does begin to quiver on the side of the neck.", Whatsonstage magazine

SWEENEY TODD
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Michael McCarthy played the role of Sweeney Todd in the West End International production of Sweeney Todd at the Gothenburg Opera House. The role of Mrs. Lovett was played by Rosie Ashe.
“The multiple prize winning musical Sweeney Todd has been one of Stephen Sondheim’s most successful works since it made its Broadway debut in 1979. Audiences across the world remain captivated by the morbid story of the barber Sweeney Todd, who cuts the throats of his customers then lets his companion Mrs Lovett bake them in her meat pies – which, incidentally, prove to be a big hit with her customers! The grotesquely comical events are carried by some of Sondheim’s most fantastic music including songs such as “The worst pies of London” and “Not while I’m around”.
“We are proud to present a semi-staged performance in English with artists directly from the West End. The director, Staffan Aspegren, has a special affinity for Sondheim’s work and is a well known figure to the audience after directing several operas and musicals for The Göteborg Opera.”
Michael performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra in:
